Double Bearing Labyrinth Seal (DS)

Bearing illustration

The DS (double seal) is a combination of a CS (centrifugal seal) together with a CC PTFE seal and has been developed for bearings used in abrasive environments. The DS seal combines the advantages of two seals in a single seal set. CS seal means that the underlying CC seal has extra protection against abrasive particles.

How DS Double Seal Works

Stainless steel bearing cover-spacer ring is used to make space for the labyrinth bearing housing seal. This dual-layer protection ensures maximum defense against contamination in harsh environments.

The grease flows through the labyrinth seal creating multiple barriers against contamination:

Installation Length Considerations

While using the DS seal, the installation length increases. When the DS seal is required in a bearing unit with a continuous shaft (cover side), the built-in length is greater. Because space has to be made in the bearing housing by using an SR spacer ring.

DS Seal Dimensions

The following table shows the additional length (V in mm) required for DS seals by shaft size:

Key Benefits of DS Seal

Bearing illustration
  • Dual Protection - CS centrifugal seal protects the inner CC PTFE seal
  • Abrasive Environment Ready - Designed specifically for harsh, abrasive conditions
  • Extended Seal Life - Extra protection layer significantly extends seal lifespan
  • Labyrinth Design - Multiple barriers prevent contamination ingress

When to Use DS Seals

  • Sand and grit environments
  • Grain processing facilities
  • Mining applications
  • Cement plants
  • Quarry operations
  • Any environment with airborne abrasive particles
